Learning Immersed in Language
Our program is grounded in principles of child development and learning and is centered on the various needs, interests, and learning styles of children. The curriculum followed at CLC pre-school incorporates the attainment targets set out by various International Anglophone Curricula and Montessori educational directives in order to ensure that when your child eventually leaves us to enter another school, he/she will have met the age-appropriate milestones.
The curriculum subjects are: English, Math, Science, French, Spanish, Drama, Geography, Music, Art, Sensorial, Practical Life and Physical Education. Many of the curriculum subjects will be taught through topic work so that the separate subjects can be easily distinguished.
It is essential that our students, from a very young age, have the chance to be part of lots of creative work. This will be achieved through play and directed activities that will enhance self-image, self-worth and self-direction and will contribute to the needs of the child in all areas of development – social, emotional, physical and cognitive. Engaging in creative play also teaches children that the fun and learning happen during the process – not just the result.
Part of our curriculum at school is carried out in French and Spanish. The structured learning of English, French and Spanish, done with native speakers, is based on oral communication through song, theater, games and art.
Dedicated to developing early learning skills, CLC pre-school also promotes pre-reading, pre-writing and pre-math skills.
After School Activities
NO EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN UNDER 24 MONTHS
Aunty Luna, from France, exposes children to the sound of French language as well as the Francophone culture on Mondays from 1 to 1.30 pm. Children learn basic concepts such as shapes, numbers, colors, home environment, school environment…but also learn how to make full sentences in FRENCH and follow instructions while playing. Aunty Luna immerses children by speaking strictly FRENCH in her class.
Uncle Jason has a football club on Mondays from 1.30 to 2pm. He has been coaching football since 2011.
Danah Chilsholm has a Ballet club on Tuesdays from 1 to 1.30 pm. Aunty Danah has over 40 years of experience in professional dance performance and 20 years of teaching experience. She currently teaches at Morris Knibb Prep School, St. Michael’s Early Education as well as CLC. She is committed to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for dancers of all ages. Her teaching style is known for being both rigorous and encouraging, focusing on proper anatomy, balance, and musicality to help students reach their full potential. She believes that dance teaches invaluable life lessons in discipline, dedication, and self-expression. By combining technical precision and artistic freedom, she inspires students to work hard and to find the joy in every movement, ensuring each class is challenging yet rewarding.
Aunty Mery, from Peru, exposes children to the sound of Spanish language as well as the South American culture on Tuesdays from 1.30 to 2.15pm. Children learn basic concepts as shapes, numbers, colors, home environment, school environment…but also learn how to make full sentences in Spanish and follow instructions while playing. Aunty Mery immerses children by speaking strictly SPANISH in her class.
Children will work on 4 artists per term. It is a way to get exposed to contemporary art and different media from an early age.
Coach Williams from Nishida’s Gymnastics offers a club at CLC on Thursdays from 1.30 to 2.10pm. Coach Williams is a passionate gymnastics coach with 8 years of experience, dedicated to helping young athletes grow both in skill and character. Teaching children brings him great joy, and he focuses on creating a supportive, disciplined environment where children can reach their full potential. Beyond physical training, he aims to instill values like confidence, resilience, and a lifelong love for gymnastics.
Rodane has a Capoeira club on Fridays from 1 to 1.30pm. He has been teaching and practicing capoeira for over a decade at Cativeiro Capoeira Jamaica, where he is known as Instructor Perninha. Rodane loves Capoeira as it is a fun, engaging, and adequately challenging Afro-Brazilian martial art. It mixes music, dance, attacks, defenses, and acrobatics moves. It is great for all ages as it builds confidence, improves coordination, and gives a peak into the vibrant and expressive culture of Brazil.

Aline Luna Less
CLC Director
After completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Nancy (CTU, France), an MA in F.L.E (Specialized in Linguistics and Teaching Methodologies), and an MA in Management, Mrs. Less moved to Jamaica in 2000. Since then, she has been working as a French teacher, translator, interpreter, publisher, project manager for ISA (SDG14) and Director of The Center for Language and Culture / CLC Pre School.
Mery Yzaguirre
CLC Lead Teacher & Spanish Teacher
After completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood in Peru, Miss Yzaguirre moved to Jamaica in 2005. She has been teaching Spanish in Pre Schools, Prep Schools (Hillel Academy Preparatory School), and institutions such as Scotia Bank and the Venezuelan Institute. Miss Yzaguirre is also a translator and interpreter (English to Spanish).
Jody DeSouza
CLC Administrative Assistant
After completing a Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in French and Spanish at the University of the West Indies – Mona (UWI), Miss DeSouza started working as the Administrative Assistant at CLC in January 2021.
